Jack and Bob have decided to end the season as of May 27th. The Jr. class will be taken up with a games night and we will likely be having a dinner event for the adults.

We’ve had a good fall season this year what with our increased enrollment in the seniors class and continued progression from many of our junior judoka (literally: Men of Judo, in practice: Practitioner of Judo).
At the recent Canada West Shia we saw several of our club compete and a few medals won. Congratulations!
Bob and I have been watching the judoka in our club and are happy with the progress we have all been making. To start it off we laid out a loose setup and practiced some side breakfalls. Only Christo and I were brave (crazy) enough to compare a tatami on the concrete floor. Our crew was plenty big and the installation went in surprisingly fast. We even laid out the tatami so as to save Jack the task of having to do it before tuesdays class. The Boys & Girls Club has OK’d the installation of the floating floor. I’ve called the supplier for the cushion blocks and we will be able to get delivery on or before January 20th. Thanks to the B&G Club, Seinen members, and parents who have contributed their time, energy, and finances that are allowing us to build this.
We also have some new grades in the Mudansha (coloured belts). Garion, Gavin, and Jake have been promoted to Yonkyu (orange). Akshat has been promoted to Sankuy (green). Excellent.
Floor hockey night seemed to go pretty well. We had plenty of fun. I think the only real complaint was that it could have gone on longer and something about missing pizza... We have been able to collect over two thousand dollars towards additional padding and Sensei Jack is in negotiations with the Boys and Girls Club to allow us to build a proper floor.
The bad news we do not have it fully confirmed yet and as such are not certain what our facilities will be like in the new year. If we get the floor we will be staying in the small gym and our practice nights will likely be remaining on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But if we don’t get the floor we will be moving to the larger gym and changing to Mondays and Thursdays.
